Urshan Gateway Library

Your financial support is important!  The Urshan Gateway Library has several projects in the works. Here are some areas your contribution can make a difference:

*Elevator- We need access to the library for the handicapped. In order for the school to be compliant with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and to meet accreditation standards we need an elevator.  There is a non-working elevator in place. Money for repairs, replacement, operation, and maintenance are needed.

*Library Shelving
- Currently, the library houses more than 32,000 books. Our goal for the end of 2007 is 35,000 holdings. That would completely fill our existing shelf capability. Additional shelving (preferably steel) that is compatible with the present shelving will be necessary as we push to a collection of 60,000 volumes.

*Security System- It is very common for a student or visitor in a rush to grab their books and run out of the library without knowing they have picked up one of our valuable library books.  A security system is essential to maintain our collection.  Starting prices vary between $15,000-$30,000.

*Library furniture- Student work space is a crucial evaluation point in the accreditation process.  Libraries must have one study space for every eight students.  Given our present enrollment we need approximately 40 study places.  Costs are estimated at $5,000-$8,000.

*Circulation Desk- Currently, the circulation desk is two standard metal desks pushed together.  An adequate waist high circulation desk can be purchased or made, but is very costly with a minimal unit starting at $2,500.

*Commercial Freezer
- Books are extremely susceptible to mold and pests.  A good freezer is necessary (should reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit) to kill mold and destroy the larvae of book worms.  Freeze drying is also a very successful process for the rescuing of water damaged materials.
