Inauguration Held for President Johns

SAINT LOUIS, MO - On October 27, 2009, an inauguration service was held to formally install Rev. Darrell W. Johns as the eighth president of Gateway College of Evangelism. Over 250 friends, alumni, students, and special guests were in attendance to celebrate this new chapter in the history of Gateway College of Evangelism and to ask the anointing of God on President Johns’ leadership.

The service began with a prayer from Rev. Steve Willeford, secretary of the Board of Trustees, followed by a statement on the purpose of the inauguration by Rev. Stan Gleason, chair of the Board.  Following, Rev. Jerry Jones, UPCI General Secretary, shared memories of his long-time friendship with President Johns.  Rev. David Bernard, UPCI General Superintendent Elect, also paid tribute to President Johns and delivered special comments about their work and ministry together.

Rev. Gleason continued the ceremony by delivering a charge to President Johns to lead the College in continued pursuit of its mission.  Subsequently Rev. Tim Dugas, former Gateway president, passed the symbolic torch of evangelism to President Johns, commending President Johns’ leadership and pledging ongoing support.

After the passing of the torch, the ceremony culminated in an address from Rev. Kenneth Haney, UPCI General Superintendent. Invoking the biblical precedent of the apostles’ laying on of hands, Rev. Haney called for ministers to anoint and pray over President and Mrs. Johns, during which a mighty presence of God moved in the Chapel.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, President Johns thanked the many supporters of the College and pledged to maintain the College’s uncompromising commitment to Apostolic doctrine and the mission of training and biblically educating disciples for Christian ministry, church leadership, and world evangelism.
